Contribution Level Based Opportunistic Flooding for Wireless Multihop Network

In this paper, we propose contribution-level -based opportunistic flooding for wireless multihop networks that achieves outstanding transmission efficiency and reliability. The predetermined relay node may fail to receive the broadcast packet owing to the inherent instability in wireless networks. On the other hand, our proposed flooding increases reliability by applying the concept of opportunistic routing that selects the relay node depending on the transmission result. In addition, the proposed technique enhances the transmission efficiency by making a priority adjustment and removing needless relay nodes, depending on the contribution level for the entire network. We make a use of an NS-3 simulator to compare the proposed scheme and dominant pruning. The analysis result s show that the performance is improved by 35% compared to blind flooding from the perspective of the transmission efficiency and by 20- 70% compared to dominant pruning from the perspective of the reliability. In addition, the performance of this scheme is improved by more than 30% compared to blind flooding with regard tothe propagation speed in the entire network.
